Ever since Facebook was launched in 2004 it has been slowly rising up in terms of how popular it is. No one actually ever expected that Facebook would become what it is today but the people behind the company proved everyone wrong and showed them how successful a company from humble beginnings could truly be.
In 2004, a few college students in a Harvard University dormitory launched a website they at the time called ‘The Facebook’. It was a website meant only for the students of Harvard to connect with one another and to set up their social media profiles so people could interact with them and get to know more about them. The idea was fairly simple but somehow it became an instant success and people immediately started using the website so much so that within a few weeks only the word had spread to different college campuses across the state and soon after Facebook was a staple on almost every college campus in the country. It was initially used by this demographic; college students in the United States but after a while it became so popular that it spread to other age groups as well and people from high schools and older people in the middle age started to join Facebook as well and it wasn’t long after then that Facebook spread to other countries.
This expansion is what has made Facebook into the giant it is today. And now Facebook boasts over 2 billion users and this is a number that keeps getting bigger and bigger by the second! A lot of people make the wrong assumption that Facebook was an overnight success and that the founders of Facebook did nothing but make the application and then rest as the power of word of mouth worked on its own. On the contrary, the success of Facebook has been long in the making and has been hard earned. If you ask the men and women behind Facebook they will tell you about the blood, sweat and tears they have spent in order to ensure that Facebook does well and becomes the success it is today.
Without going into the technicalities one needs to remember the bigger a website gets and the more user it starts to have, the bigger the website’s servers need to be in order to withstand that load. And to cater to such a big number of users, Facebook needed to have a lot of room and a lot of funds quickly so they could ensure that they were able to provide a service to their users.
Because of the obvious costs that go into running such a big company such as Facebook there were rumors which started circulating that the company could not afford to provide the service for free any longer hence needed to charge customers in order to give them the service they needed. However, the rumors were quickly dispelled by the people at Facebook and in fact the founder of the company Mark Zuckerberg made a statement announcing that Facebook has always remained free of cost and will always remain so in the future as well. In fact in order to drive this point home they wrote this down on the website’s login page.
But then a lot of people have questioned about where Facebook gets its revenue from. It is such a huge company, there is bound to be a place where they get there revenue from. And the answer to this question is fairly simple. In fact so simple that you probably already know this. Facebook gets a majority of its money from advertisements and sponsored posts on their websites. Online advertising has become huge lately with more and more companies taking out ads for their products and services online hence Facebook has cashed in on this trend. Since Facebook is one of the most popular social media websites in the world, a lot of companies are desperate to advertise with them and hence Facebook has tons of companies that use their platform for advertising.
Other than advertisements and sponsored posts on the Facebook website. Facebook launched their shares in the stock market last year. The move was considered to be genius since it was no secret people would immediately buy Facebook’s stock. And this is exactly what happened; people clamored to purchase shares in Facebook and the company made about more then 40 million dollars in just a couple of hours. The success of Facebook and the incredible recognition of the company lead to it breaking all kinds of records as soon as it hit the stock market.
But the real reason behind Facebook’s success is their dedication to their users. Facebook has always worked on the premise that it wants to make things better for its users and make the user experience on their website amazing. And this is exactly what Facebook does; they are constantly fine combing out every bug so that users can get the best experience possible.
And Facebook has always been dedicated to upholding certain community standards. If they find anyone on the website not adhering to these standards, they make sure that action is taken. Either the account is removed or suspended; whatever the action is there is action that is definitely taken.
This is mainly done by Facebook in order to protect users from hateful and negative things. Facebook recognizes their responsibility towards its users and makes sure that they are responsible with the platform they are providing people. This is why they have certain measures for people to use if they feel like someone is threatening and scary to them and thus they need to avoid them in all ways possible; this is where Facebook’s block option comes from.
But the fact is that it is not always someone we don’t know who is harassing us on Facebook or at times the posts which we do not like seeing on our timeline are by relatives and we cannot essentially block them on Facebook because the next family get together would be very awkward especially if they figured it out.
This is where the unfriend option comes in so you do not have to block someone but you can avoid their posts as well. Keep reading for more details.
How to Actually Unfriend Someone on Facebook Without them Knowing
Okay let’s be real, if we unfriend someone we regularly meet it might get a little awkward if they find out you have done so. And chances are that they will indeed find out. So here are some ways you can unfriend someone on Facebook without them knowing. However there isn’t really a way to unfriend someone on Facebook without them knowing per se; Facebook even now does not inform someone if they have been unfriended by someone but if the person comes across your profile they will easily be able to see you have unfriended them.
Here are some ways you can not exactly unfriend someone on Facebook without them knowing but get close enough to the results you want to achieve.
-
Limit Them on Your Facebook
If you do not like how someone keeps commenting on your posts and just has mean things to say to you and you cannot go ahead and unfriend them because your relationship with them is complicated and does not allow you to do so, you can go to their profile and click on the option which reads ‘friends’ and add them to a list called ‘restricted’ this will restrict them from seeing your posts and if they cannot see your posts they cannot comment on them. While this is not ideally the option to unfriend someone on Facebook without them knowing; it is pretty good too.
-
Unfollow Them
While it would be amazing if we could just unfriend someone on Facebook without them knowing; we sadly cannot do this. While they will never get the notification or an email telling them they have been unfriended by you, they will nonetheless find out sooner or later when they come across your profile and see that you are no longer friends with them. So if it is their annoying posts you dislike and want a break from them, then go to their profile and click on the option which says ‘following’ and choose the option to unfollow them. This is not the same as if you were to unfriend someone on Facebook without them knowing but this lets you unfollow them so that you do not have to see any of their posts on your profile.
Unfortunately we do not have a solution where you can unfriend someone on Facebook without them knowing unless you choose to block them in which case they will not be able to see your profile at all but these tips will help you curb the problems you might have with having them in your friends list. We hope they help you avoid the person you are keen on avoiding!
